Element

AGPL-3.0 self-hosted Web

Alternative to: Alternatives to Slack

Element is a fully featured Matrix client for the Web, iOS, and Android. It gives users access to Matrix through a web browser or from devices running either of the two major mobile operating systems. The software is licensed under the AGPL-3.0 and is intended for people who need to use Matrix across both web and mobile environments, rather than being limited to a single device platform. Element can serve as an open source replacement for Slack when the requirement is messaging through Matrix. However, it is not a direct copy of Slack: Element is specifically a Matrix client, so users looking for the same service and experience as Slack should be aware that it is built around Matrix instead. Its stated platform coverage is the Web, iOS, and Android.
