SeaweedFS

self-hosted

SeaweedFS is a distributed file system built for storing large numbers of small files, exposing data through WebDAV, an S3-compatible API, FUSE mounts, and HDFS. It suits teams running backups, container images, or media libraries who need storage that scales by adding nodes rather than rebuilding the cluster. It covers much of the role of Amazon S3 or a Hadoop HDFS deployment for on-premises and hybrid setups. Capacity grows by attaching more volume servers, and small-file workloads avoid the overhead that slows general-purpose file systems. The honest limitation: it is not a drop-in replacement for every S3 feature, so applications relying on advanced bucket policies or the full AWS API surface need testing before migration, and operating it at scale calls for some distributed-systems experience. Documentation and community support come from an open source project rather than a vendor contract.
