Asterisk
Asterisk provides an easy-to-use but advanced IP PBX system, VoIP gateway, and conference server. It is for people and groups that need one or more of these telephony roles. The IP PBX is an Internet Protocol private branch exchange, and the VoIP gateway handles Voice over Internet Protocol. The conference server adds the third role for users who need conferences. Asterisk combines all three roles in one open source program, which can fit users whose needs cross the boundaries between an IP PBX, a VoIP gateway, and a conference server. It remains easy to use even though the system is advanced. One limitation follows from that scope: an advanced system with three roles may be more than someone needs for a basic, single-purpose setup.
