SnappyMail
Fast, privacy-friendly PHP webmail for people and organizations using IMAP.
SnappyMail is a simple, modern web-based email client built for lightweight operation, fast performance, and straightforward installation and upgrades. It includes dark mode, an option to remove background and font colors from messages, an advanced Sieve script editor, service-worker notifications, improved PGP support, and Kolab groupware support. It supports Sodium and OpenSSL encryption, and plugins can be loaded as .phar files. Administrative security uses password_hash and password_verify. Failed authentication attempts can be written to syslog, with Fail2ban instructions provided. It requires PHP 7.4+ and the mbstring extension, without requiring a database.
It is for individuals and organizations running their own IMAP mail servers who want self-hosted webmail with privacy-friendly defaults. The client omits social integrations, Gravatar, Facebook, Google, Twitter, Dropbox, and X-Mailer. A Docker Compose file is included in the repository, and the djmaze/snappymail image is published on Docker Hub.
SnappyMail replaces RainLoop Webmail Community edition, the project it was forked from, and shares its PHP codebase. It is described as drastically upgraded and secured. Its main trade-off is that RainLoop components were removed, including POP3 support, license and premium code, the jQuery-based stack, and other legacy components.
Key features

- Kolab groupware support
- Sodium and OpenSSL encryption
- .phar plugin loading
vs RainLoop Webmail Community edition
Both products provide a PHP-based web email client, and SnappyMail is a fork of RainLoop Webmail Community edition. SnappyMail adds features such as improved PGP support, an advanced Sieve editor, and failed-authentication logging to syslog. Unlike RainLoop, it removes POP3 support, license and premium code, the jQuery-based stack, and other legacy components. It fits RainLoop users moving to IMAP-based webmail with these newer features, but not those who depend on the removed components.

What's new in v2.38.2.1
This is a v2.38.2 release for docker with php2shell fix. Check built status here: https://github.com/the-djmaze/snappymail/actions/runs/39929891169 It could take longer. I've noticed that Github is very slow these days. Maybe the move to Azure? Or Vibecode? I don't know yet, but browser also slows down in time 😔
