About LibreAlts

Last updated: November 2026

LibreAlts is an independent catalog of open-source software, focused on self-hosted tools that replace paid SaaS and commercial products for teams and small businesses.

Who runs it

A small independent team. We are not a company, we don’t sell software, and we don’t run ads disguised as download buttons. The catalog is maintained by hand: every entry is checked before publication.

Where the data comes from

  • Our starting point was awesome-selfhosted, a community-maintained list of self-hosted software (used under CC BY-SA 3.0). From it we took project names, links and category ideas.
  • Descriptions are written by us, in our own words, based on each project’s official documentation.
  • Versions, release dates, file hashes and licenses are taken from official project repositories and release pages — see how we verify.

What we are NOT

  • We are not the developers of the listed programs and don’t speak for any project.
  • We are not an official distributor: download buttons lead to the projects’ own release files, unchanged.
  • We are not affiliated with any of the commercial products mentioned as alternatives.

Why open source?

Open source programs are free to use, share and inspect: the license guarantees it, and the community keeps the code alive. No subscriptions, no license keys, no vendor lock-in. For the full picture — what open source means and where it fits a business — see the catalog and each program’s license page.
